Landsbanki Guernsey Crisis & Vince Cable's Ill-Informed Views Exposed.

Vince Cable - Mouth on a Stick!

Sixty-Four year old Dr John Vincent Cable PhD is MP for Twickenham and Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor. He really should know better than to be hooting about only "millionaires and tax dodgers" using the Channel Islands as a banking centre.

This is how he should stay - tight lipped. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

He recently commented, "I would like to see the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and British dependent territories in the Caribbean closed down as tax havens. How can we have any form of tax integrity if territories under British jurisdiction are helping rich individuals and companies avoid the tax which other citizens pay?"

That statement shows just how out of touch Mr Cable is on matters to do with offshore and Channel Island banking. Sir Richard Branson labelled him "ignorant" over some of his recent comments. Vince Cable described the plight of the Landsbanki Guernsey savers - left without depositor protection - as "unfortunate". The man seems to feel that the Landsbanki Guernsey savers got what was coming to them and they accepted the risks of banking there.

The mere detail he seems to have overlooked is that many ex-pats are unable to open UK bank accounts even if they wanted to, because they are unable to prove a UK address. What about the many productive foreign passport holders resident in the UK who want to hold a portion of their cash away from this grasping government? The ones who do not need to pay Composite Rate Tax on interest payments unless they are actually brought into the UK? What about the residents of Guernsey who are merely banking at home? The people caught in this crisis are mostly not tax dodgers, multi-millionaires and disreputable international types seeking to hide every pound from Grasping Gordon - they are people who were lawfully banking there and seeking a competitive interest rate on their life savings.

This site says: Mr Cable and his ilk should really investigate the facts of a matter before engaging their mouths. We are thankful that his party stand little chance of ever being elected. Do your constituents - some of whom are clients of Icelandic banks - know your views Mr Cable?

Better if Vince was this tight-lipped all the time!
